Rose Portillo is a Los Angeles legend – from her starring role in the landmark production of Zoot Suit to her work with About Productions, Rose makes original theater that is vital and deep, with a particularly Southern Californian take. She’s also a visual artist and writer. This Sunday, in LA, for our service on SPACE, Rose is reading a piece by Carl Sagan. Here’s the link to her imdb page: http://www.imdb.com/name/
Patrice Quinn is a SUPERSTAR! A wonderful singer, actor, writer and more. And, she’s a dear old friend from back in my LA club days when we sang together. I’m SO SO happy she’s going to sing for us this Sunday in LA for our service on SPACE. She’s a great jazz singer and a truly magical performer.
SPACE is the theme for our next service – it’s this Sunday, December 7th, in LA. Sometimes, when we pick the themes they just sound cool – as a lot of you know, we repeat themes sometimes – Memory, Light, these are some that we’ve had a number of times. Other times we look for interesting new themes that will force a fresh take on the service and the stable of artists we’re creating and drawing from. Sometimes, we pick a theme with no idea what’s going to happen – and so it is with SPACE. I’m in the thick of it here, prepping for SPACE – and, it’s my favorite type of theme – has a LOT of different meanings. Space as in outer space. Physical space – as in where you live, your home, office, etc. Space as in spiritual space – spaciousness, I guess. SPACE, the area between things.
We’ll be out there Thursday and hitting the ground running. I love these trips to LA – they keep me connected to the place I come from. The SPACE i come from. And, as we slide into winter here in the Hudson Valley, it’s nice to have a week of warmth and suna nd maybe even beach time.
Come see us, if you’re in LA – let’s share some space together. And, fill it with music and dance.
This Sunday in LA, our theme is SPACE and, our visual artist for the day will be Adam Yasmin. Adam works in photography, digital media and graphics – making colorful worlds and landscape that combine light, graphics and space. For Sunday, he’s presenting light boxes with visual landscapes within. Very cool. Here’s how his bio describes his work:
Adam Yasmin is a visual artist that creates entirely via iOS, compositing original digital photography with graphic design. As a mobile creative, his work has been the subject of a collaborative augmented reality installation that blends sound design with 3D animation resulting in nuanced synesthesia to engage the viewer with everyday technologies. Recent works have also been commissioned as album covers.
